Promoting Excellence in Masonic Research

The late Most Excellent Companion Carl R. Moore of Doric Chapter № 66 was Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of California in 1950. He presented a Resolution for Capitular Education in 1950 and proposed a Capitular Education program and the formation of a Research Chapter in 1951.

The Chapter of Research was formed at last in 2003. As a fitting tribute to the vision of M∴ Ex∴ Comp∴ Moore, the Carl R. Moore Award was instituted to promote high-quality Masonic scholarship within California.

Conditions

1. Papers must not exceed 5,000 words.
2. The subject matter must be related to Freemasonry.
3. The paper must not have been previously published in print or on the Internet.
4. All Masons who are members in good standing under the Grand Lodge of California are eligible—excluding the award's moderator and panel members.
5. All quoted material must be identified and referenced in a Bibliography.
6. Title and outline to be submitted to the Moderator by December 1st 2008.
7. The completed Paper must be mailed, in double spaced 12 point manuscript or on CD or sent by email to the Moderator with an administrative fee of $5 by March 2, 2009. The Paper must be in Microsoft Word or Word Perfect. The pages must be numbered at the bottom center. A separate title page must include the name, address, telephone number and email (if any).
8. The Papers, without the name of the writer, will be submitted to a Panel of anonymous adjudicators to decide the winner.
9. All submitters will be informed of the winner by April 21, 2009.
10. The Chapter prefers to publish selected entries on its website. However, no paper will be placed on the Internet until consent has been obtained from the author. Papers dealing with esoteric content may be edited by the Chapter as appropriate prior to publication.
